I am wondering if amantadine has to be stopped prior to getting the shingles vaccine. The recommendation by Merck is to be off of anti-virals for 14 days prior to being vaccinated. Would this apply to amantadine also as it was intended for use with type A flu?

Great question.  Probably best to ask your doctor, but amantadine was decommissioned by the CDC as being ineffective against flu in 2006 so my guess is that it will not matter whether you are on off amantadine (therapy for Parkinson's disease) with the shingles vaccine.
