You can eat anything before, during or after taking stalevo.

If however, you are too sensitive, and you develop wearing off if you mix meds with food, then it is best to take stalevo at least 30 minutes prior to or 2 hours after eating.

Dear Friend,
Yes, by all means you can have crackers, juice, fruits, vegetables – any non-protein or low-protein foods with Stalevo. Protein breaks down into individual amino acids in the intestine, and here they compete with levodopa for absorption into the bloodstream. This is usually not a concern in the early stages of PD, but can be a problem as PD advances. But non-protein foods are fine, and can help to allay nausea that sometimes occurs with Stalevo.

After taking Stalevo, wait 30-60 minutes before eating a meal; meals contain a mixture of protein, fat, and carbohydrates, and you want the levodopa in the Stalevo to clear the stomach, enter the small intestine, and cross into the bloodstream ahead of the protein in the meal. Then, it will get to the brain without interference and help to manage PD symptoms.

Let me know if you have other questions.
Best regards,

Kathrynne Holden, MS
