Found this in the paper - made me laugh though I was rather put out by how many of these apply to me....

You know you’re middle aged when…..

Your houseplants stay alive - and you can’t smoke any of them

You keep more food than beer in the fridge

Six in the morning is when you get up, not when you go to sleep

You hear your favourite song played in a lift

Your home used to consist of beanbags, piles of clothes and a plastic shower. Now it has scatter cushion, a wardrobe and a wet room

You get twitchy if you miss the weather report on the telly

Eating a bucket of KFC at 3am would severely upset, rather than settle, your stomach

Drinking shots and smoking cigarettes guarantees midnight dry heaves and a sinus attack rather than midnight skinny dipping and a Big Mac attack

Comfort triumphs over style in the fashion stakes

You find your self churning out the same old lines your parents did

You choose Fairtrade coffee and organic muesli over pop tarts and chocolate milk

You make sure you’re well rested before attending a concert

People stare at you when you dance. And not in a good way

You find yourself saying things like “Whatever happened to…..?” and “I remember when we only had three TV channels”

You embarrass your children - and it’s expected of you to do so

Your car insurance goes down and your car payments go up

You actually eat breakfast food at breakfast time

The cinema and meal out is the whole date instead of the beginning of one

Sleeping on the couch makes your back hurt

You think wearing a chefs hat while barbequing is a good look (jb?)

Hi Gazzy, you have hit the nail on the head with that list, thanks. Except I don't wear a chef's hat ever. I find myself doing and thinking about things in a middle aged manner quite often now. Guess I am there. But you aren't. John

Somewhere along the line I got old. Since I still prefer chocolate milk and pop tarts I must be in my second childhood.

jb, i've never spoken to anyone over the age of 50 who sounded less middle aged! And Marcia, you mind your tongue on those pop tarts - they burn!!

Gazelle,

If you're middle-aged, then I am too. And, I refuse to be middle-aged yet! So, therefore, you are not middle-aged!
Thank you very much!

Tonya - I like your logic - quite happy to go along with you on that one

Age is a frame of mind but sometimes we have to listen to our body. You girls are a bunch of teeny boppers I think. J
