    Impulsive Disorder/Pathologica Gambling

I am not aware of any data stating Azilect (Rasagiline) being classified as an Agonist. It’s a Monoamine Oxidase B Inhibitor along with Selegiline. Dopamine Agonist are Parlodel, Mirapex, Requip, Neupro transdermal patch. D

    Running out of energy

Dr. Okun, I have Parkinson’s and Facilitate a Support Group for my city. Today I was teaching Mindful Walking and a question came up from 4 members. “Why when I’m walking at a good pace doing well, heel toe good pace, after 20 minutes I’m tired? My Body slouches and I’m out of energy. I’m not on off time” Can you give me an answer for my Parkinson’s members? What’s the reason? How to change? Sincerly Discovery

    CBD Oil

Hello I am tremor dominate on right side. Tried CBD with no THC for 2 months...nothing.. Switched to CBD with THC...had to get super stoned to stop the tremor. No way to live when I couldn’t find my feet!! I’d rather have Tremors!! Hope that helps...just remember we are all different in our journey. D

    alcohol and tremors

I’ve also tried CBD oil along with THC Oil....I had to get super high to have any help on the tremor. I’m too busy to be buzzed and not functioning. It works for some but not me. At least with one glass of wine I’m functioning. D

    alcohol and tremors

Hi...I definitely have Parkinson’s, tremor dominat. A glass of wine calms my tremor, two practically takes it away. Ya it’s great but be careful you don’t add another issue to the one we already have...alcohol won’t cure Parkinson’s as you know but ya it’s nice to get that two hour break!! D

    Dropping Things

Good morning Superdecooper! I really like your attitude with Parkinson’s and how you are taking one step at a time. I've been Azilect since April 2014, nothing else to date. I’m preparing myself to start on Levodopa in the next few months. While the Azilect has given me close to four years of benefits it will not nor has not halted the progression of our disease. “Full blown” Parkinson’s takes on many different forms as we are all very different people. No two people diagnosed with Parkinson’s will take the exact same path. However one thing we do have in common is progression. Im not trying to burst your hope, I am trying to keep you grounded. I am struggling with taking my first Levodopa, I feel defeated. Though in my reality I knew that the day was coming. I’m not going to live life with symptoms that no longer can be handled with Azilect alone. Mainly my right side tremor. I’m 58 and a fighter. I train in Kickboxing, Circut Cross and Power Walk 8 km daily. Exercise is the only proven medication that slows/delays the progression. All the best to you in 2018 D

New guy here - a journey I'd like to avoid

Hello Glad your Doctor is putting you on Azilect. I’ve been on it with no other drug for 4 years this April. I just want you to know that it has very mild Benefits on Symptoms no matter what stage you’re in. Some say if any! We are all very different, particular drugs work on some and not others. I’m preparing myself to start L-dopa in the next few months. I’ve had a great ride on Azilect but the ride is coming to an end. Progression has been very slow for me and I give credit to my heavy exercise regiment , positive thinking, positive people I keep around me and Azilect....exactly in that order. best of luck D

    Rasagiline and other drugs

I’ve been on Azilect since April 2014 and no other drug. I am very active with exercise that is the main contributor to my delayed symptoms. I’m also a huge believer in Azilect. It has delayed my taking other meds for close to 4 years. It’s my personal experience, we are all different. D

    Sinemet or Prolopa

Dr Okun I wrote you months ago asking which of the two, Prolopa or Sinemet is best for early stage.(see below your answer) I was diagnosed October 2014 and have done extremely well on just Azilect, however I believe it’s time to add one of the above. Im very healthy, active and still holding still with right side tremor with some rigidity. What side affects are you speaking of in your reply and with my above info do you think starting on 50/12.5 Prolopa is a wise start for me? Many thanks Discovery Prolopa and Sinemet are essentially both dopamine and different varieties are available in different countries. In early PD you can use these alone, or an agonist alone or a combination. They are both safe with MAO-B drugs like selegiline and rasagiline. I choose based on a detailed history, exam, and potential side effects.

    Sinemet or Prolopa

Helps a lot thank you. Just so I’m clear Prolopa is not an agonist? Or it’s considered to be one ? D

    Muscle weakness?

Hey MM....D here! Buy a Bender Ball to work on strengthening your fingers, hands and legs....I use it and I also do a workout session teaching my Support Group Members how to benefit from using the ball. The Bender is soft and easy to use. Also great to put behind your lower back when sitting. Cheers!!

    Predisposed to Parkinson's

Dr Okun I have heard on more then one occasion that if you have Parkinson's you were predisposed to it since conception. Is this true? Is it only predisposed when it comes to genetics? If not genetic then it's idiopathic. I was at a Support Group and this came into the discussion. Thank you for any clarification. Discovery

    Nicotine Patches

Hi Dr. Okun, What can you tell me / us about the relationship between PWP and nicotine patches. When do you recommend them to if ever? If you do what dosage? What stage do they work best? I'm Early Stage. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you Discovery

    Parkinson and treatment drugs

Miracle, wise I'm not sure about that! Lol However I'm tired of others pushing their "opinions" and "no that won't work" or "what, your not on Sinemet yet, big mistake" I am the only person who will make my choices. If my choices are wrong it's on me. If they are right it's on me. This insidious disease is hard enough on us, having people nattering in our ears makes it down right impossible to keep in our lane of sanity. I play hard, laugh loud and love always. ...this keeps me afloat. Cheers MS? D

    Parkinson and treatment drugs

Rainbow, One thing I have learned in the past 3 years is to do what works for you. The Forum is a great place for info and chatting with others in the same space. Though at the end of the day we are all different in our progression and mind set. My beliefs will be different from the next who is exactly where I may be in the disease symptoms but chooses a different path. I am a strong believer in exercise and a healthy mental state. If you lack in one the other won't survive. I sense that you are a caring daughter one that will do what it takes to keep Mom healthy. I admire that kind of love. All the best D

    Parkinson and treatment drugs

I am on Azilect and one 81mg aspirin daily, that's it. I have never had side effects from Azilect however I have read from some on the forum who have. Ask your pharmacist regarding the drug interaction, it's important to have that info. I wish you all the best! D

    Parkinson and treatment drugs

I just want to comment on Azilect (Rasagiline). I was diagnosed in 2014 and have been talking nothing but Azilect. My Neurologist (MDS) on June 27 told me my progression is slow/delayed by daily exercise routines and Azilect. I shake my head when I read Azilect does nothing. Tell that to my symptoms or lack of!! D

    Prolopa

Dr. Okun Excuse me. I forgot to add this other concern. I read that Prolopa brings on involuntary moves ( dyskinesia) more so then Sinemet does in shorter time. Is this true? Is this a wiser choice over Sinemet? Discovery

    Prolopa

Dr. Okun, Is Prolopa a drug of choice when a patient is early stage showing tremor and ridgity? (12.5/50) Are there greater side affects with Prolopa then Sinemet? Is there a drug reaction between Prolopa and Azilect? When do find it's a good fit with your patients? Thank you Discovery

    Benserazide HLC/Levodopa

Hello Mark, Do you know of any drug interaction between Benserazide HCL/Levodopa and Azilect? The dosage is 50/12.5 and 1 mg of Azilect. Thank you Mark Discovery
