  1. Muscle weakness?

Hey MM....D here! Buy a Bender Ball to work on strengthening your fingers, hands and legs....I use it and I also do a workout session teaching my Support Group Members how to benefit from using the ball. The Bender is soft and easy to use. Also great to put behind your lower back when sitting. Cheers!!
  2. Predisposed to Parkinson's

Dr Okun I have heard on more then one occasion that if you have Parkinson's you were predisposed to it since conception. Is this true? Is it only predisposed when it comes to genetics? If not genetic then it's idiopathic. I was at a Support Group and this came into the discussion. Thank you for any clarification. Discovery
  3. Parkinson and treatment drugs

Right back at ya MM..... Hugs
  4. Nicotine Patches

Hi Dr. Okun, What can you tell me / us about the relationship between PWP and nicotine patches. When do you recommend them to if ever? If you do what dosage? What stage do they work best? I'm Early Stage. Please give me your thoughts. Thank you Discovery
  5. The Problems with Medical Marijuana

Patriot, Really appreciate your honesty. However never expect anything less from you Cheers D
  6. Parkinson and treatment drugs

Miracle, wise I'm not sure about that! Lol However I'm tired of others pushing their "opinions" and "no that won't work" or "what, your not on Sinemet yet, big mistake" I am the only person who will make my choices. If my choices are wrong it's on me. If they are right it's on me. This insidious disease is hard enough on us, having people nattering in our ears makes it down right impossible to keep in our lane of sanity. I play hard, laugh loud and love always. ...this keeps me afloat. Cheers MS? D
  7. Parkinson and treatment drugs

Rainbow, One thing I have learned in the past 3 years is to do what works for you. The Forum is a great place for info and chatting with others in the same space. Though at the end of the day we are all different in our progression and mind set. My beliefs will be different from the next who is exactly where I may be in the disease symptoms but chooses a different path. I am a strong believer in exercise and a healthy mental state. If you lack in one the other won't survive. I sense that you are a caring daughter one that will do what it takes to keep Mom healthy. I admire that kind of love. All the best D
  8. Parkinson and treatment drugs

I am on Azilect and one 81mg aspirin daily, that's it. I have never had side effects from Azilect however I have read from some on the forum who have. Ask your pharmacist regarding the drug interaction, it's important to have that info. I wish you all the best! D
  9. Parkinson and treatment drugs

I just want to comment on Azilect (Rasagiline). I was diagnosed in 2014 and have been talking nothing but Azilect. My Neurologist (MDS) on June 27 told me my progression is slow/delayed by daily exercise routines and Azilect. I shake my head when I read Azilect does nothing. Tell that to my symptoms or lack of!! D
  10. Prolopa

Dr. Okun Excuse me. I forgot to add this other concern. I read that Prolopa brings on involuntary moves ( dyskinesia) more so then Sinemet does in shorter time. Is this true? Is this a wiser choice over Sinemet? Discovery
  11. Prolopa

Dr. Okun, Is Prolopa a drug of choice when a patient is early stage showing tremor and ridgity? (12.5/50) Are there greater side affects with Prolopa then Sinemet? Is there a drug reaction between Prolopa and Azilect? When do find it's a good fit with your patients? Thank you Discovery
  12. Benserazide HLC/Levodopa

Hello Mark, Do you know of any drug interaction between Benserazide HCL/Levodopa and Azilect? The dosage is 50/12.5 and 1 mg of Azilect. Thank you Mark Discovery
  13. How did you talk to others?

Me too... My family and close friends of course know but it's a tight circle. D
  14. Restore Gold

Fred, your pm is not taking messages. can you clear. D
  15. Back from Gainsville and Azilect Study - any others?

Hey MM, hope all is going well for you!! Thank you for the link regarding the Azilect study. I'm taking it that Science wants to put a final stamp on whether Azilect indeed slows down the progression of Parkinson's. It will be very interesting to read the results. I had my yearly check up with my MDS at the Pacific Parkinson Research Centre in Vancouver June 27. Dr Mc Keown for the first time in three years didn't talk to me about getting on Sinemet due to having a positive 2 hour exam. So far so good. Is it due to Azilect? Who really knows. I just know I'm feeling good, however my time will come when Sinemet will be added. I'm not living in a fools paradise! D
  16. Back from Gainsville and Azilect Study - any others?

Hi Lorit249 What is the study? I've been on Azilect for 3 years and it's benefits work well for me. I didn't realize there was ongoing studies on a med that's already mainstream. Cheers D
  17. CBD OIL

Hi Mark, Can you tell me if there's any interaction between Azilect and CBD OIL...9,8mg/ml THC. 9.1mg/ml CBD ? Thank you!
  18. CBD OIL

Hi Mark, Well day 6 on the THC CBD Oil and have had to adjust four times. I started on 0/10... no THC...I was up to 25 drops 3 times per day after buy after4 weeks I decided to try the 10/10 50%THC 50%CBD as I was not getting any improvement in my tremor. Wow !! I started 10 drops and was tired and stoned in less then 2 hours...too strong!! Next day I dropped to 5 drops and was tired and groggy!! Next day I dropped to 3 drops and another 2 after 1 hour.....forget it!! Today I called the farm and spoke to the controller of the plant. It was suggested I dilute the 10/10 with the 0/10 making a 5/10 5 being the THC. Luckily I had 8ml of the 0/10 and dropped 4ml of 10/10 and tried it. Big difference, I'm not tired but I am jittery so I'm thinking my body needs to adjust. I have never been tired on Azilect nor had breathing issues. On the two I have only experienced tiredness. I hope I find my balance with the Oil... I believe it works when taken properly. Discovery
  19. Cannabis CBD Oil

I use CBD Oil....I'm in Canada where it's legal for most part...here is my reply when I questioned my Cannabis farm. Is the Equivalency Factor based on how much cannabis was used to make the cannabis oil? No, not necessarily. As part of the licensing process, Health Canada requires that every Licensed Producer create a way to equate dried cannabis (prescribed in grams by Physicians) to cannabis oil (sold in milliliters). This makes it easier for Physicians to continue to prescribe cannabis in grams per day, and for us to be able to sell cannabis oils to our clients. Our goal was to propose a method of calculation to Health Canada that would maximize the amount of Cannabis Oil our clients were able to buy. We actually have the highest equivalency factor in Canada at the moment (1 g = 12.5 mL for CANNA OIL 20|0). Other LPs have an equivalency factor of 1 g= 3-10 mL for products of similar potency and size. This means that their clients can order less oil, because it takes more away from their 30-day ordering window. Let’s take a look at our recently released lot of CANNA OIL 20|0. It contains approximately 20 mg THC for every mL of oil (fully decarboxylated). So, in a 50 mL bottle, this amounts to approximately 1000 mg of THC (20 mg/mL x 50 mL = 1000 mg THC). Now let’s compare to an “average” concentration of THC in some of the cannabis flowers that we use to make our oil (we’re using whole numbers to make it easy to follow). For the sake of argument, let's say that we use flowers with a potency of 10% THC (on a fully decarboxylated basis). This means that each gram of cannabis flowers contains 100 mg THC (1 gram = 1000 mg, 1000 mg x 0.1 = 100 mg). Theoretically we would have to use 10 grams of flowers to equal 1000 mg of THC (which is what we have in our 50 mL bottles). But this process is not 100% efficient (nothing ever is!). So we have to account for extraction efficiency during cannabis resin production, plus losses from decarboxylation, dilution, and packaging. It actually turns out that we need to use at least 15-20 grams of flowers to make one bottle of cannabis oil.
  20. Is loss of arm swing a dead give-away for PD?

I chased the rainbow in hopes my diagnoses was wrong...from going to Othropedic Surgeons to spending money on MRI's...Crazy Times...Wasted time and money... However I needed to do my due diligence before I could fully accept and adapt...do whatever you have to, to get to a full acceptance mode. Then and only then can you focus 100% positive on the true battle ahead of you. D
  21. Is loss of arm swing a dead give-away for PD?

Hi there, My first symptom was no arm swing on my right side. My husband said on day walking to the beach "hey, your arm is not swinging. Why?" Three months later my right hand tremor started. Thats what got me to a Neurologist. Sure enough Parkinson's... You need to get diagnosed....not by the Internet !! Good luck Monolo.... Let us know how it goes...it could be nothing remotely to Parkinson's...I hope so.. D
  22. Loosing My Mind

Wow Luke you are very upset. I support Miracle because of the ongoing support she has given me through the years, I won't apologize for that. I don't think pitting people against each other in your dis take with Miracle is appropriate. I will support you as quickly when it's earned. We all need to understand that we're all at different stages, different head spaces and different approaches on this insidious decease. Chill out. We need all our energy to battle Parkinson's not each other. D
  23. Loosing My Mind

Miracle you are a huge contributor on this forum both as caregiver and as a friend to many of us with PD. Do exactly that...move along from this thread and stay positive! There's always going to be personality upsets. Thank you for being you. D
  24. Linda's thread

Linda, I'm really sorry to see that your thread has been shut down. Truth be known, I have not been one to post my beliefs on the thread nor have I really took time to read it. I find such injustice that because a couple of haters or do we call them "trolls" who can't tolerate difference they attack to the point of meltdown. I have written the Administration asking them to reconsider and unlock the topic. After reading a couple of pages I can see that many members find comfort in the thread and in each other. Let Linda love Christ. What harm does it do to anyone? If it offends you then don't read it.....quit easy! PWP find comfort wherever they find it....who are we to judge, therefore it belongs on the forum. Seriously, doesn't Parkinson's give us bigger issues to put our energy into other then picking on a woman who only offers comfort? D
  25. Your expertise of Parkinsons, what if?

I've been taking Azilect coming on two years in June. I use it as mono therapy...must do something because I'm not needing Siminet yet. I exercise every day no less then 90 minutes and no less then 12000 steps per day.. D
