  1. Thank you for the detailed response. I have one question. If I take Turmeric in capsule form, is it absorbed better? If not, how would I add black pepper to increase absorption?
  2. Hello, can you tell me what you know about turmeric root? I have read that it can be helpful as an anti-inflammatory (I suffer from arthritis in my knee), and it may also provide some neurological benefits. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's one year ago at the age of 47. Thank you.
  3. I posted a question in the Ask the Pharmacisr forum about a week ago. I know it has to be reviewed and approved. How long does this process usually take? Is there a way to view the question before it it is posted to make sure that it went through correctly?
  4. Is it ok to take turmeric extract while on azilect? I have heard that turmeric and specifically curcumin could have some benefits for arthritis, which I have pretty badly in my knee. I have also heard there may be some cognitive benefits to it as well.
  5. Hello. I am currently on Azilect only and have mild Parkinson's symptoms, diagnosed one year ago. I also have arthritis in my left knee for which I have had physical therapy, cortisone and gel injections, to little avail. I was told that turmeric may have benefits with regard to joint pain as well as neurological benefits. Is it safe to take while on Azilect and do have an opinion on the value of taking this supplement?

  7. Are you familiar with Transcranial direct current stimulation? It is my understanding that it is experimental and not FDA approved. Is it helpful to treat Parkinsons? I have read that it can be helpful for people with chronic pain as well. What is your opinion on this treatment? Thank you.
  8. My neurologist just recently prescribed me Trazodone to help me sleep through the night, as I as am often restless. It's a 50 mg tablet that he suggests I split in half. I am also on Azilect and the insert with the trazodone says not to take it with an MAO-B inhibitor. Pharmacist says that 25 mg dose is ok and has no contraindications. What is your opinion?
  9. If Parksinsons comes out earlier than expected due to a stressful time in ones life, is the disease progression any different than if it would come out under other circumstances?
  10. Hello Dr. Okum. I was diagnosed with Parkinson's about 4 months ago, at the age of 47. I have a tremor in my left foot, sometimes in my leg, and also diminished swinging motion in my left arm when walking. I had a DATScan in October 2014 which was abnormal. My question is regarding my tremor. In the reading I have done about PD over the past few months, it seems most people experience tremor in their hand and/or fingers as opposed to leg or foot. Is there a significance to the fact that mine is in my foot and I have no tremor in my hand? The only thing I notice in my left arm is an occasional, slight and momentary muscle twitch in my forearm when reaching out for an object. I only feel the foot tremor when I am sitting, and it seems to subside when I am more reclined or lying down. Thank you.
