Mirapex vs. Mirapex ER

Recommended Posts

I was placed on Mirapex by my old Neurologist several weeks ago and was doing very well on it. I saw a new Neurologist last week who specializes in Movement Disorders.

She decided to switch me over to Mirapex ER. I was wondering what the difference is between the two?

The only difference is the the release time. The ER is an extended release the is usually taken once, rarely twice, a day if need. The regular mirapex is a 3 times a day, or more.

The ER came out to help with compliance. It is much easier for PD patients to take a tablet once a day than 3 times a day.

I suggest you keep a daily journal of how you feel and how it is working. This is great info for you and the dr to use in case they need to adjus it or change your meds. At the top of my forum, you will see "medication schedule." this is great tool to use to help keep track of Meds day to day.
