broccoli sprouts

I read some where(I cant rememeber where) that broccoli sprouts are good due to their sulforaphane content. apparently when you cook broccoli this is destroyed. They sells suppplements that are from broccoli sprouts. I was considering adding it to my co enzyme 10, omega 3 and PD meds.

Could you please comment

Dear Noah,

A couple of small studies demonstrated that sulforaphane from raw broccoli is better absorbed than from cooked broccoli. However, a newer study suggests that eating broccoli sprouts with lightly cooked broccoli (steamed 2-3 minutes) is even more powerful than simply eating raw broccoli.

 

I would use broccoli sprouts rather than a supplement, however. Some powders have been shown lacking in the enzyme myrosinase that activates the sulforaphane. Raw sprouts contain the myrosinase and are a better choice.
