DBS PROGRAMMING FREQUENCY

Recommended Posts

Guest

My regards to you, after DBS surgery, is it possible to establish an average of programming sessions before reaching an optimal level, this of course considering that DBS is not a cure, that it will make you feel better. I have heard that a good average is

6 monthly visits after DBS.

Thanks for your time.

There is a North American DBS survey published by Helen Bronte-Stewart and Bill Ondo. They looked at this very question and the average was between 4-8 programming sessions in the first six months after the operation (if I recall correctly).

We do once a month at our center for 6 months and then every 3-6 months thereafter. We do not recommend many changes to programming after 6 months...most of the optimization at that point is dealing with medication changes and disease progression.
