Arthritis Diet?

4 posts in this topic

I am 66 and have had PD for 6 years. Doing well on Sinemet and Azilect. My real problem is that I have developed painful arthritis at the base of both thumbs. Disease was confirmed by X-Ray and I have had several shots of cordisone with modest results. Is there any such thing as an effective "arthritis diet" that can help in a situation like mine?

Thank you.

I'm sorry to say that I'm not aware of complete relief of arthritis via dietary means. However, fish oil and MSM may provide some relief; and I would consider use of turmeric when cooking as well. All of these can be helpful for some individuals, and fish oil and turmeric may be useful for PD as well. I don't have exact amounts; but consider 500 - 1000 mg of mixed DHA/EPA in fish oil daily; and 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of turmeric daily. Ideally the turmeric should be cooked; but may be mixed with ground black pepper for better absorption.
