DAT scan results

2 posts in this topic

All I have been told about my DAT results is that it showed "Marked decrease of dopamine uptake on both sides of the brain." Now I am to have an on/off visit in early June. Can you shed any light on how far PD has progressed with just that statement? What good might another on/off visit do if it has already been determined that I am not a good candidate for DBS because I have more non-motor than motor symptoms and I am at high risk for a brain bleed? I only take carb/levo as every agonist I've tried I responded negatively to. Thanks for your willingness to answer such vague inquiries!

The DAT result itself does not help much in treatment. An on-off evaluation if giving an extra amount of levodopa (usually 1.5 times the normal dose) may reveal symptoms potentially addressable by medications, duodena, or DBS. It could be helpful.
