Hereditary PD

Recommended Posts

This is a great question.  We generally ask folks worried about these issues to see a genetics counselor.  The counselor will take a very detailed family history and assess and discuss risk.  One issue is whether anyone else in the family has PD.  Another issue is whether there is a known genetic issue that runs in the family.  Having a first degree relative with PD puts you at a little increased risk but does not mean that you will get the disease.

There is a number of extended family members that had PD. They are all deceased. My husband's father disappeared in second world war. He was young. We do not know what would have been. So far my husband is the only one coming from that family having PD. It worries me that PD woul come to other members of my family.

If you are really worried I would suggest you consider meeting with a licensed genetic counselor to discuss.  Good luck!
