any one have trouble with feeling unbalanced with falls after DBS?

Recommended Posts

Hi fellow DBS people !  A question -- Has anyone felt that their balance was worse than before surgery? I have an odd feeling of unbalance -not dizzy just wobbly and I have fallen a lot more lately.  Has anyone had any treatment of any kind that helped with this?

Dear Siak, I made an adjustment recently which increased my voltage by only 0.1 and I felt wobbly and came close to falling several times and when I decreased the voltage setting just by .1 it vastly improved my sense of balance. Also I have been practicing easy Thai chi daily to help with balance.  It's a very simple form of just the basics.  The DVD is sold on this site as Easy tai chi for seniors and those with Parkinsons..  Micki

Siak,

Since surgery, my balance and gait have taken a dive into the toilet. Of course they weren't great before hand. I had friends approx. 12 years ago tell me that there was no way I could be a "Weeble", cause Weebles wobble and DON'T fall down. While I on the other hand wobbled and DO fall down...LOLOL...... I knew before surgery that since Sinemet did nothing to help my balance or gait problems, that DBS probably wouldn't help either. Also that there was a good chance that DBS could very well make them worse. I'm ok with it though, it's a small price to pay for all the other benefits.

Mickirose and Flybaby-- thanks for the responses. I will try the TaiChi. I also noticed it since the increase in stim but didn't make the connection.
