Early stage Parkinson

Recommended Posts

Hello. My mom has a right hand tremor at rest and has slight depression, she has some rigidity but she can walk and do daily chores, she does not experience any other difficulties. She was diagnosed as early stage Parkinson in another country last week. Is there med. or herbal way to stop her hand tremor completely and permanently? Her doctor prescribed.Pexola 0.375mg and it helps her tremor little. She says it helped her depression/stress too.If she lived here in US, I was wondering what kind of medical treatment would she benefit?(I live here and I can bring her to US if it will be beneficial to her) Also she was taking some medicines (like Mabdera) and pain killers and Zoloft for her Rheumatoid Arthiritis and depression and she is suspicious that maybe it is not a Parkinson and maybe it is Parkinsonism due the combination of drugs. I was wondering is there a really good way that works for how to differentiate Parkinson and Parkinsonism. Thank you!

The best way to differentiate PD from drug induced parkinsonism is by seeing an expert for a careful history and examination and then being followed for many months.  It is likely based on your story that she has PD and is undermedicated on the Pramipexole and may need to slowly go up on the dose and make sure the timing is adequate.  Watch out for impulse control disorders and other side effects.  Depending on age and other factors in the US many docs would use straight SInemet or Madopar plus a MAO-B and exercise.....hard to know without seeing her.
