Not,many people have this type of unit yet I believe. Most people are with medtronic and most programmers around the country are familiar with medtronic and it may take them years to master this new system. Something to think about. You may have limited options to get second options from other programmers in the country if you go with this type of unit

While waruna makes a good point, I'd still be interested in checking out a new provider.  Most likely they are fairly aggressively getting techs into training programs and trying to spin up support quickly for exactly the reasons waruna mentioned.  At the end of the day if more people use other than Medtronic systems it will put pressure on Medtronic, and all the other current and prospective DBS suppliers to continually increase quality and decrease costs.

Hi everybody,, yes Lopez I have St Jude and it works well. St Jude is now Abbot. They are quite sensitive to questions and comments. In fact one year after the surgery I had some timing problems with the recharger. It recharged but in a disproportionate way. This was annoying. I told Abbot and they gave a new one right away and took the old one.

IJust wanted to let you know that I had the Surgery on 19-sep  the DBS device is from st Jude infinity directional lead.Surprisingly we are not able to achieve the expected result from DBS surgery and even if we get the result we were not able to sustain the outcome for a day or two.

Loss of Balance and destroyed gait

Impaired walking without support ( Wheel Chaired)

Depresssion

Had been to multiple programming sessions with my MDS but no help.Currently on 4 doses of levodopa and 2 doses of CR with DBS.

It takes few years to get dbs settings optimized provided they implanted leads with millimeter precision. Don’t make any judgements until at least 6 moths. Go to an expert programmer like Sierra Farris in Denver if side effects worsen

I have St Jude brio rechargeable. I agree that as new companies come into the market Medtronics will have to increase functionality and decrease cost which will be to the advantage of the consumer. Presently as far as I know there are 3 companies on the market: Medtronics the and 2 competitors namely St Jude which became Abbot this year and Boston scientific. Assuming that the electrods are placed optimally, You need a good programmer to work with you hours long day after day. It is an iterative long process which may take 3 to 4 weeks.
