Rasagiline and other drugs

Recommended Posts

Mary C,

You are correct. Azilect stops the cells in the brain from reabsorbing unused dopamine and breaking it down. Thus raising the available dopamine to be used.

As far as Carbidopa, it is added to Levodopa to help ease nausea from taking levodopa straight, it also stops an enzyme in the blood that breaks down levodopa thus allowing more of the dose to cross the blood brain barrier.

Hope this helps clear some of the unknowns.

Blessings

Unfortunately, I am too fortunate to qualify for the Tafcares program for reduced cost Azilect. Income too high, but I just hit my $3000 yearly health insurance deductible yesterday so I will only have a $25 copay for a 3 month supply.

I’m now 5 weeks in on Rasa and I also take cymbalta. Its helped mildly and I do sleep better. My exercise routine seems to help even more and I’ve started using energy drinks to ramp the workouts up, no side affects yet!
