Swedish Hospital

Recommended Posts

Hello My name is Bob Ingman. I live on prince of Wales Island Ak. I have known that I have PD for about five years now. Usual symptoms & worsening. I learned about DBS here on this forum. Thought it might be good to look into. My health care provider has set me up for this at Swedish Hospital in Seattle.

Do any of you have first hand with this facility. Any information or advise will be appreciated. TIA. Bob

You may be jumping on DBS bandwagon too soon. Did you get an official Parkinson’s diagnosis? Normally people can go at least 10 years with Parkinson’s meds alone before their quality of life is affected to some extent so they explore DBS as an option. DBS have its own setbacks so it must be done at the right time in order for it to be worth it. If not, it may make things worse. Swedish  Medical center in Denver Colander is excellent since they have a good team and an excellent DBS programmer called Sierra Farris. I don’t know about the one in Seattle.

warnuna01 I have all the classic symptoms. You know them all I`m sure. No quality of life at this stage.  Rapidly progressing .That includes lack of mental capabilities.

Your reference considering Swedish Hosp, Denver is reassuring Thank you. Bob

First you should get an expert diagnosis from a neurologist. You can’t self diagnose Parkinson’s. Dr Monique and Sierra are good team. You are in good hands if you use Swedish Denver as Sierra will be with you during surgery. UF Florida Gainesville is also good with Dr Okun and Pam as programmer.

I live in Seattle and have a friend who had DBS at Swedish last year. I just emailed her to ask permission to share her email address with you. As soon as she gets back to me I will let you know.

Robert,

Because of insurance issues, my friend did not have DBS at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. It was done at the University of Washington Medical Center. She reports excellent results. She has her programming done at Virginia Mason Medical Center, also in Seattle.

I was in Swedish First Hill in  March for an infection and received less than stellar care. I hope I never have to be admitted there again.

My friend suggests you contact Suzanna Eller at Swedish Neuroscience Specialists. Her number is (206) 320-5331.

You can also get a good second opinion from this facility if DBS is truly right for you. Sometimes it is not and people jump into DBS out of desperation and end up making things worse. DBS can cause major issues with speech which can take a big toll on your social life as you find itdifficult to communicate

I`m freezing up more frequently and when walking my feet curl up painfully & go numb. They cant hold my weight. I think that the three appointments I have at SH Seattle will determine if I`m a DBS candidate. I was primarily interested in the staff & facilities there. Thanks. Bob

Update: I recently stayed at Swedish Hospital in Seattle two days & received A+ care. If I need more I will return to them. I was diagnosed as having Lewy Body.
