DBS surgery and pacemaker

Can DBS surgery be done on someone with a pacemaker? I understand that an MRI may be dangerous but a cat scan is OK. Please advise. Thanks.

Yes, DBS can be done when you have a pacemaker.

The localization of the proper targets would have to be done with a CT rather than an MRI making microelectrode recording much more important. It is therefore to your benefit to choose a center with significant expertise in microelectrode recording.

The DBS battery needs to be placed 6-8 inches from the pacemaker so that there is not any crosstalk.
