Amantadine

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Wondering if anyone has been or is currently taking amantadine. I've been having a lot of side effects from the dopamine agonists so she's recommending I change to amantadine which she says will help dyskinesias as well. Just wondering what it's like, common side effects, etc. Did it help...

Thanks for any info...

Hello Xaxa, I have not taken that drug but I am sure that somebody has. Anybody able to give XaXa any help on this one? I don't like changes to my drug routine, actually I don't like drugs period, but I know that they are necessary. Hopefully this works for you X, john

hi there ,sorry can't help witht this drug i've never had it. Just a note on the agonists - I was on ropinerole and could not cope with the side effects - I switched to requipxl (sames drug, but slow release version) and hey presto, the side effects (nausea / falling asleep etc) just went.

hope you get sorted soon

Hi xaxa, I have been on Amantadine 100mg 2x/day for about 7 or 8 years now (I also take Sinemet 50/200 cr 3x/day. The Amantadine has worked really well so far without side effects. I have no complaints. I also had a lot of trouble with the agonists years ago and switched over to the Amantadine/Sinemet combo. Ken

Hello xaxa...I tried many of the agonists but couldn't handle the side effects...nausea, extreme fatigue and sleepiness, etc. So, my MDS switched me to Sinemet 25/100 3@4x daily along with Amantadine 100mg 3x daily; Comtan 200mg 3x daily; and Azilect 1mg 1per day. I also take a couple of muscle relaxers...Flexeril 5 mg 1 per day in the AM and Skelaxin 800 mg 1 per day at bedtime. I also take a couple of supplements. This regimen has worked well for me. I'm sure that my Sinemet dosage will be raised at my next appointment in the fall. It's rare that I suffer any side effects at all...only if I take each dosage on a very empty stomach or if I don't eat within 15 - 20 minutes of taking the meds in the morning or the evening.

Hope you find something that works well for you!

Take care...Bill
