    Rock Steady Boxing

SS I am glad to hear it! It is by far the greatest physical workout I have ever had. And I am really starting to discover the wonderful mental benefits of the program. When I am having a not so great week, it is always an awesome release to head to the boxing gym and put on the gloves to sweat and punch it out!! Keep it up Secret Squirrel!!

The monthly cost for Rock Steady

I am not sure if there is a standard rate but in Birmingham, there is a one time fee of $125 for an initial assessment (includes assessment, gloves and wraps) and the then $25 per class (1.5 hrs each) and our gym offers 2 classes per week.

Secret Squirrel That is awesome that RSB is now in your area. Good luck with the assessment! You are going to love it. Other than the workout itself, one of the most fulfilling things about the program after my first week, is the feeling I get from being with the whole group of other PWP. There is something special about being together with others in this fight and getting support and inspiration from everyone. Also, the volunteers that help with our class are amazing and this program really feels like it will have tremendous benefits, especially mentally!! Good luck!!

Feisty I haven't heard of the four Ps, but I like that a lot. I also never thought of using a Wii, what a wonderful idea. I may try and find a used one somewhere and add that to my rotation of exercise/mobility program. Thanks for the ideas and I hope maybe you will see a Rock Steady program pop up in your area.

    Rock Steady Boxing

Just had my assessment to join our Rock Steady Boxing class here in Birmingham!! I am so excited about this group. For some reason this type of program has got me more pumped and motivated to exercise than my normal routine since my diagnosis in April, which was doing a workout in a gym I found through Davis Phinney. The workout was great but I was struggling with self motivation. My right arm decided last Wednesday that ii was feeling left out I guess and wanted to join in the game so I now have a bilateral upper body tremor and this sudden unexpected symptom change really kind of messed with my head. I am finding out very quickly that this disease is so unpredictable. My trainer Martin is amazing and talented and truly has a special place in his heart for PWP. The movements and exercises are a real challenge and I really needed someone to help remind me what I can do instead of living in the negative mind set it is so easy to fall into. I haven't even had my first full session and I am already feeling the mental benefits of finding a way to exercise that truly seems beneficial in our fight!! If anyone is lucky enough to have this program in your area, please give it a shot!! I can't wait to meet the others in my class and work together to fight, laugh and enjoy life!! Jami D.

Thanks PatriotM! I appreciate the advice! I am actually headed to my neighborhood gym this afternoon after work to join up and get on a regular exercise program. Jami D.
  12. Good morning everyone! My name is Jami D. and I have been reading many of the forums over the past few weeks and just want to say that it seems that there are a lot of great people on here. I received a clinical diagnosis of PD two weeks ago, and began 1 mg of Azilect and was scheduled for a DATscan which was performed 2 days ago. Got the phone call last night from my neuro and he confirmed that the scan was consistent with PD. Needless to say I don't think the reality of the diagnosis has hit me yet. I feel my life is just beginning at 39 years old and now I just feel as though I woke up this morning in this weird alternate reality. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself to the tribe and I look forward to getting know (and learn from) as many of you as possible as I start the good fight! Hope everyone has a wonderful day!! Jami D.
