Are there beneficial exercises for Facial Masking?

Recommended Posts

Are there any beneficial exercises for facial masking? I am trying smiling more often, and blowing air into my cheeks, but it accured to me that there actually might be something out there already known. I don't want to reinvent the wheel if I don't need to.

Thank you for any help.

I do not know of specific exercises for improving facial masking for people with PD.  However, there are studies that have shown that the variability of facial movement significantly increased from before to after LSVT LOUD treatment, an intensive voice exercise program for people with PD.    These results were based on use of the facial action coding system developed by Ekman et al., 2002).   One study of facial movement in people with PD following LSVT LOUD was published in an article called "Effects of the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT® LOUD) on Hypomimia in Parkinson's Disease"

by Dumer, Oster, McCabe, Rabin, Spielman, Ramig,& Borod, 2014, in the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, 302-312.
